스피드레이서 LA시사회 이후 후덜덜한 후기들...

이미도 선생님이 추천해준 영화가 두 편이 있었다.
하나는 최근 작업을 마치셨다는 버킷 리스트였고 다른 하나는
영어공부에 도움이 될 법한(?), 될 만한 상황(?)에 견주어 추천해준
톰행크스 주연의 터미널이다. 터미널은 이미 보았고 버킷리스트를
한번 슬쩍 구경하러 가던 중 비가 출연해서 연신 화제가 되고 있는 영화!

정말 좋아하는 매트릭스를 제작했던 이 괴수형제 감독들이 만든 영화!
 "스피드레이서"에 대한 시사회 후기가 벌써 올라와 있었다.
관심있는 분들은 한번 보시랑께...

아직 엠바고가 걸려 있어서 정식 리뷰는 없지만 몇몇 영화 사이트에 비공식적인 후기가 올라와 있기에 번역해

Since I covered the “Speed Racer” press day on Friday, I got to see the new Wachowski Brothers movie a few nights ago. With the film weeks away from hitting movie screens on May 9th, we’re all under embargo from writing any sort of review.But…I have to say a few quick words…even if Warner Bros. gets mad at me.

금요일 '스피드 레이서' 언론시사에 다녀왔지만, 5월9일 극장개봉을 몇주 앞둔 이시점에서 우리는 엠바고 때문에 그 어떤 리뷰를 쓰는 것도 금지되어 있다. 그러나 워너브라더스사가 화를 낼지라도 이 몇마디만은 꼭 해야겠다.

I loved this movie. LOVED. I’ve never seen anything like what the Wachowski’s pulled off with this film, and I really can’t believe they’re the ones who made it. After all, it’s a PG movie that’s made for families to enjoy together.

영화는 정말 좋았다. 정말로. 워쇼스키가 이영화에서 보여준 것과 같은건 본적이 없다. 그리고 이게 워쇼스키의 작품이라는걸 믿기 힘들다. 이건 가족이 함께 관람하는 PG등급 영화 아닌가.

Also, as dark as “The Matrix” was, this is as bright. It’s like a cartoon, but real. And no matter what you think of the clips, trust me, the movie has a solid story and great action. Kids and racing fans are going to flip out over this film. While you’ve seen some of the action scenes in the trailers and featurettes, I swear there are tons of surprises that you don’t know about.

매트릭스가 어두운 만큼이나 이영화는 밝다. 만화같으면서도 실감난다. 지금까지 공개된 동영상들을 보고 여러분이 어떻게 생각했든 내말을 믿어라. 이 영화는 탄탄한 줄거리와 멋진 액션을 보여준다. 아이들과 카레이싱 팬들은 이 영화를 보고 좋아서 뒤집어질 것이다. 예고편이나 홍보영상에서 이미 액션 장면들을 조금 맛보았지만, 아직 여러분이 보지못한 경이로운 장면들이 산더미다.

Finally, while I usually don’t enjoy the performances of children in movies, I have to say, I loved the kid who plays Spritle. And for fans of the cartoon, you’ll get to see a number of funny scenes with Spritle and his pet chimpanzee, Chim Chim.

마지막으로, 보통 아역배우의 연기를 안 좋아하는 편인 나도 스프리틀(*주인공 스피드의 동생) 역의 꼬마에겐 감탄했다. 또, 당신이 원작만화의 팬이라면 스프리틀과 침팬지 침침의 유머러스한 장면도 많이 볼수 있을 것이다.

Since I need to wrap this up so you can watch the 7 movie clips, I’ll finish off by saying if you want to see a great film that you can share with your kids or just enjoy for yourself…this is it. I loved it. Absolutely worth a full price admission and I cannot wait to own this on Blu-Ray. Did I mention I loved it?

아이들과 함께 또는 그냥 당신 혼자서 즐길수 있는 멋진 영화를 찾는다면 그건 바로 이 영화라고 말하고 싶다. 최고였다. 제값 다 내고 볼만한 가치가 있는 영화이며 블루레이로 나오는 날만 손꼽아 기다린다. 참, 이 영화 정말 내 맘에 들었다는 말 내가 했던가?

So I've gotta say that as a fan of the classic Speed Racer cartoon series, I was not impressed with what    I've seen over the past 6 months or so in relation to    the promotion and hype of this new live action film.
I honestly had no intention of seeing it when it was released in theaters.

솔직히 말하면 난 '스피드 레이서' 원작만화의 팬으로서 지난 6개월간 나왔던 홍보영상이나 실사판에 대한 높은 기대감에 전혀 공감하지 못했었다. 난 정말로 이 영화가 극장에서 개봉하더라도 가서 볼 생각이 전혀 없었다.

Well, this weekend a friend who works for the studio (Warner Bros) calls me up and asks if my girlfriend
and I wanted to attend a Press Screening in LosAngeles that evening. I declined initially, but just for the heck of it asked the g/f. She, of course, surprised me by saying she'd love to go. So I caved and figured
if it really sucked, maybe we'd wander out and duck into another flick there at the theater.

근데 지난 주말에 워너 브라더스에서 일하는 친구에게 전화가 왔다. 나보고 여자친구랑 같이 그날밤 열리는 LA 언론시사회에 갈 생각이 있냐는 것이다. 처음엔 거절했지만 혹시 몰라서 여친한테 물어봤더니 뜻밖에도 가고 싶다는 대답이 돌아왔다. 그래서 난 영화가 정말 별로면 중간에 나와서 다른 영화나 봐야겠다고 마음먹고 있었다.


I gotta tell you we ended up going and as soon as the movie began, I was riveted to my seat. Words,
CANNOT explain the magnitude of this film. HOLY SHIT! Forget Wachowski, those brothers should be
called WOW'chowski!

결론을 말하자면 우린 결국 영화를 보러갔고, 난 영화가 시작한 순간부터 엉덩이가 의자에 붙어버렸다. 말로는 이 영화의 웅장한 규모를 다 표현 못한다. 우왕굳! 이제 당신들은 워쇼스키 하지말고 '와우'쇼스키해라!  Ok.

I dont even know if this really captures it, but  imagine if you took visual elements of TRON, silly  imagination of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, Star Wars: Episode 1's Pod Racing scenes, Cool futuristic cars of Back to the Future 2, a technologically rampant city from Blade Runner, Color Schemes of Dick Tracy, CGI elements of Sky Captain & the World of Tomorrow and the Comic Book stylings of 300 and Sin City and blended them all together. You'd get a concoction of something that is so visually stunning, rich in color and mind blowingly effects laden that you'd be speechless. And thus I truly was.

이렇게 설명하면 어떨지 모르겠는데, TRON의 비주얼, 찰리와 초콜렛 공장의 기괴한 상상력, 스타워즈 1편의 파드레이스 장면, 백투더퓨처 2편의 미래형 자동차들, 블레이드 러너의 첨단기술로 범벅된 도시, 딕트레이시의 색감, 월드 오브 투모로우의 CGI, 300이나 씬씨티의 만화책같은 스타일 등을 전부 다 섞어놓으면 어떻게 될까? 놀라운 영상미, 풍성한 색감과 충격적인 특수효과로 가득찬 뭔가를 보고 할말을 잃게 될 것이다. 내 반응이 바로 이랬다.

I've NEVER seen a movie like this before. The editing was fast pace, the details of props and 70's retro
sets along with flashbacks woven into moving wipes of current scenes and around characters was quite impressive.

이런 영화는 태어나서 처음 본다. 세밀한 소품과 70년대 복고풍 세트가 현재와 과거를 오가는 플래시백 속에 하나로 어우러지는 빠른 속도의 편집도 인상적이었다.

The acting was decent as well though at times Emile Hirsch's character reminded me a bit of Hayden Christiansen - yet there were other times he totally embodied the cartoon Speed we all grew up on.
There were show stealers like Paulie Litt who played Spritel (that kid has a future in Hollywood!) John
Goodman and Susan Surandon were solid and Matthew Fox's "Racer X" character honestly didnt stray too far from his "Jack" strong leader persona from LOST, but definitely held his ground. And Christina Ricci both old and young versions of her Trixie character were a pure delight to watch.

연기도 대체로 좋았다. 가끔 에밀 허쉬의 캐릭터가 (스타워즈의?) 헤이든 크리스텐슨을 연상시키기도 했지만, 원작만화의 주인공 스피드를 훌륭히 체화시킬 때도 많았다. 스프리틀역의 폴리 릿처럼 재기발랄한 캐릭터도 있었고 (이 꼬마 앞으로 헐리웃에서 앞날이 밝아보인다!) 존 굿맨과 수잔 서랜든은 여전히 든든했다. 매튜 폭스의 레이서 X 캐릭터는 솔직히 그가 연기한 '로스트'의 강인한 리더인 잭과 크게 다르지 않았지만 충분히 제 역할을 해냈다. 크리스티나 리치의 트릭시 캐릭터는 젊은 버전 나이든 버전 둘다 보는 것만으로도 즐거웠다.

With homaginal nods to the classic series, it feels like this movie is so perfect and the CGI is so breathtaking, you really feel like you're at times watching a bad-ass cartoon - then at times watching a quirky, over-saturated scene from a Tim Burton film.

원작도 훌륭하지만, 이 영화는 너무나 완벽하고 CGI도 뛰어나서, 어떨땐 잘만든 만화를 보는것 같다가도 어떨땐 기괴하고 과장된 팀버튼 영화의 한장면을 보는것 같기도 하다.

Admittingly though, like many movies like Gladiator or 300 in the way that the editing is so fast paced that
you cant really appreciate the fighting because the images are cut so fast, I sorta felt that way about some of the racing scenes in the movie, just too fast and quickly cut.

다만, 글레디에이터나 300같은 영화에서 편집이 너무 빨라서 액션 장면을 제대로 감상하지 못할 때가 있는 것처럼, 이 영화의 몇몇 레이싱 장면들도 그렇긴 하다.

But man, overall, what a ride!!! I was SO glad I saw this movie. An,d to top it off, when it was done, a rep
from IMAX walked our group of about 100 to an adjoining IMAX theater in the same complex where we    were shown the 1st 16 minutes of the film again, this times in IMAX. WOW!!! WOW!!! WOW!!!

그래도 전반적으로 신나는 한편의 영화였다. 이 영화를 보게 되어 정말 다행이다. 더 좋았던 것은 영화가 끝나자 아이맥스 관계자가 우리를 바로 옆에 위치한 아이맥스 상영관으로 데려가 처음 16분을 다시 보여줬다는 것이다. 우왕 우왕 우왕!

This is apparently only coming to 107 theaters in the US in IMAX we were told. I suggest you FIND ONE near you and see it!!! The scope and size of IMAX and the details and effects of this movie, with the sound that comes out...shit you'll feel you're in the Mach 5 (and 6).

설명에 따르면 이 영화는 미국내 107개의 영화관에서만 아이맥스로 상영된다고 한다. 반드시 가까운 아이맥스 상영관에서 보길 권한다. 꼭! 이 영화의 디테일과 특수효과 및 음향효과를 그 커다란 아이맥스 화면에서 본다면... 휴.. 당신 자신이 마하5호 아니 마하 6호를 타고 있는 것처럼 느껴질 것이다.

That's all I've got to say, even if you never were a fan of the old show, you will love this movie, it was
just over-the-top pure fun and I just wanted to let you all know this is definetely a must see!

대충 이정도다. 설령 당신이 원작의 팬이 아니었더라도 이 영화를 좋아하게 될것이다. 순수한 재미 그 자체인 영화다. 강추한다.

While I'm not able to outright talk about Speed Racer yet, I can tell you that a sequel would definitely be welcome. The movie delivers so much incredible entertainment that I'm not only already excited to see it again, but I would be more than happy to see this turn into a franchise with at least two more movies.

(엠바고 때문에) 비록 '스피드 레이서'에 대해 직접적으로 언급할 수는 없지만, 내가 한가지 확실하게 말할수 있는건 속편을 만드는건 아주 좋은 생각이라는 점이다. '스피드 레이서'는 그야말로 온갖 엔터테인먼트로 가득한 영화이기 때문에, 속편을 통해 또 볼수 있다는 생각에 벌써 마음이 들뜰뿐 아니라, 최소한 2편은 더 추가해서 아예 프랜차이즈 상품화된다면 그보다 기쁜 일은 없을 것이다.

Joel makes a great point - Speed Racer is definitely one-of-a-kind and I guarantee you will walk out of it saying you've never seen anything like it. And when you see it, too, I hope you walk out with a big enough smile across your face that the Wachowski's want to make the sequel they've already dreamt up.

('스피드 레이서'를 만들고 스스로도 놀랐다는) 조엘(실버)의 말은 옳다. '스피드 레이서'는 틀림없는 걸작이며 난 당신이 지금껏 이런건 본적이 없다고 중얼거리며 극장을 나설 거라고 장담한다. 워쇼스키가 벌써 구상해놓은 속편을 만들고 싶어지도록, 당신도 나처럼 한가득 미소지으며 극장을 나서길 바란다.

I know sequels are a very sore subject with the Wachowski's. The majority seems to dislike both Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions and I'm sure are a bit weary of anything they do next. This reminds me a bit of Pixar, who rarely ever does sequels, but this time I'm not as worried. I feel like the Wachowski's have got another Toy Story, where a sequel will build upon the first and hopefully turn out better. And this time they're starting with a sequel in mind. The idea for a sequel to the Matrix took too long to culminate after it became a cult success and that hype got to their mind.

워쇼스키에게 속편이란 사실 썩 기분좋은 화제가 아니다. 대다수 관객들은 '매트릭스' 2, 3편을 그다지 좋아하지 않았고, 그래서 워쇼스키의 차기작도 조금은 불안하게 생각했었다. 속편을 거의 만들지 않는 픽사를 다소 연상시키는 부분이지만, 난 이번에는 걱정이 안된다. 내생각에 워쇼스키는 1편을 바탕으로 더 나은 속편을 만들수 있는 '토이 스토리'같은 작품을 만들어낸 것 같다. 게다가 그들은 이번엔 속편에 대한 아이디어를 처음부터 갖고 시작한다. '매트릭스'의 경우, 컬트적인 인기를 끈뒤 워쇼스키가 그걸 알아채고 속편을 만들기로 결정하기까지 너무 오랜 시간이 걸렸었다.

Hey Harry, Moriarty, Quint, everyone…

First off, gotta say I love the site to pieces. I sent in another article a long, long time ago about the Steamboy event that Mori hosted over at the Egyptian Theatre ? that was one fan-fucking-tastic screening. Today, however, I feel cinematically obliged to speak on a little film I saw last night called Speed Racer.

(인사말 생략) 어제 본 '스피드 레이서'라는 영화에 대해 영화팬으로서 꼭 얘기해야 할 의무를 느낀다.

A little history: I'm a pretty huge fan of the anime, having watched it a lot as a kid. As for the Wachowskis, I loved Bound, loved the first two Matrix films, but I thought the third one was uneven. As a result, I was pretty skeptical of Speed Racer ? even with such a great cast and their obvious love for anime, I wasn't sure that the brothers would be able to capture everything that made the show so great ? the family dynamics, the insane action sequences, the wrongs on the racetrack that needed writing, and finally, the cheese. Well, I was pretty sure after seeing the trailer that they were on track to getting the cheese right. The rest, though? It could have gone either way.

나에 대한 배경지식 약간: 나는 어려서부터 원작 애니의 열렬한 팬이다. 워쇼스키 작품 중에선 '바운드'와 '매트릭스' 1,2편은 아주 좋아하는데 3편은 실망이었다. 따라서 난 '스피드 레이서'에 대해선 꽤 회의적이었다. 아무리 캐스팅이 훌륭하고 워쇼스키가 일본 애니를 좋아한대도 원작의 훌륭함을 살려낼수 있을지 의문이었다. 가족간의 역학관계, 미친 액션씬들, 추가적인 집필이 필요했을 레이싱 대회의 온갖 부정과 비리(?) 그리고 무엇보다 치즈.. 이런 것들을 말이다. 뭐, 첫 예고편을 봤을때 아마 의외로 치즈를 잘 살려낼수도 있겠다는 생각은 들었다. 하지만 나머지는? 글쎄, 두고봐야 알일이었다.

Warner Bros. was awesome enough to host this screening and I was lucky enough to know a kid with lots of friends and an extra pass. We were some of the first in line and after a lot of bitching decided to get seats near the back of the theatre. After the screening they had us go to a different house so we could see the first reel again in IMAX. Again, my friends wanted to sit in the way back, so I can't say what the film would be like for someone seeing the film down by the front of the theater, but I can try to put into words my reactions on the experience as a whole.

워너 브라더스는 고맙게도 이번 상영회를 열어주었고, 나는 운좋게도 마침 남는 표가 한장 있는 일당 중 한명과 아는 사이였다. 우리는 줄 앞쪽에 있었는데 한참 투닥거리다가 결국 극장 뒤쪽에 앉기로 했다. 상영이 끝난뒤 또다른 상영관에서 이번엔 아이맥스로 영화 첫부분을 보여줬는데 거기에서도 우린 뒤쪽에 앉았다. 그래서 앞쪽에 앉은 관객들의 경험을 대변할 수는 없지만 내 감상을 요약하자면 대충 이렇다.

Speed Racer is orgasmic.

'스피드 레이서'는 오르가즘처럼 짜릿한 영화다.

I will try not to reveal too many spoilers until the end of the review, instead using the first 15 minutes to explain why this film is one of the very best reinventions of a classic series to come out in a long time (that is, it kicks Transformers' ass several times over) as well as a great film in its own right that works on just about every level. It surprises me that Warner isn't marketing this heavier as this could be one of the biggest films of the summer. There's something here for the all-American crowd, for anime fans, for racing fans, for kids and adults, even for your girlfriend (I'm taking mine on opening day). And the cheese is ? surprisingly - kept to a minimum. Or at least it felt that way. In any case I was too absorbed in the story (I won't say 'plot' because that word sounds too conventional, and this film is anything but) to notice.

나는 리뷰 끝까지 가능한한 스포일러를 자제하는 대신, 영화의 처음 15분을 예로 들어 왜 이 영화가 실로 오랜만에 보는 고전명작의 훌륭한 재해석이며 (즉 이 영화는 '트랜스포머' 따위는 안드로메다로 날려버린다는 얘기) 그 자체로도 모든 면에서 뛰어난 영화인지를 설명하려고 한다. 사실 난 워너 브라더스가 왜 이 영화를 더 크게 홍보하지 않는지 모르겠다. 올여름 최고의 대작이 될수 있는 영화로 보이는데 말이다. 이 영화는 미국인들, 일본 애니팬, 카레이싱 팬, 어린이, 어른, 심지어 당신의 여친(난 내여친이랑 개봉날 보러갈 거다)에게까지도 어필할 수 있는 영화다. 그리고 놀랍게도 치즈는 거의 등장하지 않는다. 적어도 내겐 그렇게 느껴졌다. 어차피 스토리('플롯'은 너무 전형적인 표현이라서 안썼다. 이영화는 '전형'과는 매우 거리가 머니까)에 너무 몰입하는 바람에 그걸 눈치챌 겨를도 없었다.

There's a lot of back-and-forth between timelines, between Speed's racing, Mom, Pop, Spritle, Chim-chim and Trixie watching from the stands, Sparky giving him advice from the box and the talking heads (many of them International) supplying us with Import!ant Plot Information, but it all goes down smoothly and is all but necessary to prepare us for future time-jumps. The only hitch, really, is that the extreme stylization may be too much, too fast, for some audiences. Personally, I loved it. I ate the whole damn thing up.

영화에는 이와 같은 교차편집이 많이 등장한다. 스피드의 레이싱 장면 사이 사이에 관중석의 엄마, 아빠, 스프리틀, 침침, 트릭시 등을 비춰주기도 하고 박스에서 스피드를 코치하는 스파키 또는 플롯상 중요한 정보를 제공하는 각국의 캐스터들을 보여주기도 한다. 하지만 이는 전부 매끄럽게 흘러가고, 앞으로 계속 나올 시간 건너뛰기에 대비하려면 꼭 필요한 부분이기도 하다. 유일한 단점이라면 극단적인 스타일 과잉이 일부 관객에게는 부담스러울 수도 있다는 것이다. 개인적으로 나는 이런 점도 아주 마음에 들었다. 영화 전체를 전부 문제없이 접수했다.

If you've seen the trailer, well, pretty much the whole film looks like that. It weaves in and out of numerous styles, and just when you think it's pushed the envelope completely with regards to digital compositing, the Wachowskis pull off another ridiculous effect that just takes your breath away completely. A large part of why the film breezed by so quickly for me was that everything was so fresh and new ? the amazing production design that makes everything look so much brighter, scenes layered on top of scenes, transitions effortlessly overlapping, timelines switching back and forth with very little allowance for a breather… it's pretty much balls-to-the-wall sugary action goodness.

당신이 예고편을 봤다면, 영화 전체가 대충 그런 느낌이라고 보면 된다. 영화는 여러가지 스타일을 수없이 갈아입는다. 디지털 효과의 극단을 체험했다고 생각하는 순간 워쇼스키는 곧바로 또다른 기상천외한 특수효과로 관객을 놀라게 한다. 내가 영화가 순식간에 끝난 것처럼 느꼈던 가장 큰 이유는 영화 속 모든 게 너무나 신선하고 새로웠기 때문이다. 모든 물체를 훨씬 밝게 표현하는 뛰어난 프로덕션 디자인, 서로 차곡차곡 겹쳐진 장면과 장면들, 장면 간의 부드러운 전환, 숨쉴틈을 주지않는 시간적 교차편집... 달달한 액션 모음집의 극단인 셈이다.

The racing scenes vary in style, but they are some of the wildest ever put to film (and this is coming from a film nut). The first race is the most straightforward, with Speed defying convention, speeding through dangerous corners in order to challenge Rex's record. There are three more races, two of them being major ones. The cross-country race is beautiful and reminded me the most of the original series. It's got elements from some of the best James Bond car chase chases as well as Episode I's podrace mixed in with a lot of wicked car jumping, and it trumps them all in terms of sheer effect and the fun that comes with a sense of teamwork. And the Grand Prix… is just heart-pounding, show-stopping bliss. Rest assured the intensity of the racing scenes are only amplified by the Wachowskis' completely original style.

레이싱 장면들은 저마다 스타일이 다르지만, 영화 매니아인 내가 장담컨대 이들은 하나같이 그동안 영화에 나왔던 그 어떤 레이싱 장면도 뛰어넘는 상상력을 보여준다. (스포생략) 제임스 본드의 추격씬이나 '스타워즈 에피소드 1'의 파드레이스에 자동차 점프를 섞은 느낌인데, 물론 특수효과나 팀워크가 주는 재미 면에서 이 둘을 가뿐히 능가한다. 그리고 그랑프리... 이건 그저 가슴뛰는 황홀경일 뿐. 워쇼스키의 독창적인 스타일은 레이싱 장면들의 강렬함을 한층 더 강조시킨다.

As for the writing, it's not apparent at first just how great the script of the film is. I thought it started out a bit rough but just got better and better after the first act, but after seeing the first reel again in IMAX I realized just how tight and brilliant the set-up really is for building up to the rest of the film. Every main character has at least one strong scene with Speed, which is touching, human and extremely import!ant to the story the brothers are trying to tell, as it's clear that family is what keeps him going. Unfortunately Snake Oiler, that dastardly villain from the show, doesn't get much screen time outside of his car. But yeah, there are tons of nods to the original show, with Spritle and Chim-chim popping out of the Mach 5's trunk more than once, Trixie spotting for Speed from her helicopter, there is a scene where the Mach 5 is outfitted with all the sweet gadgets it's famous for, etc…

시나리오에 대해서 말하자면, 이 영화의 시나리오가 얼마나 잘 쓰여졌는지를 첫눈에 느끼기는 어렵다. 한번 봤을땐 시작부분은 좀 거칠다가 뒤로 가면 갈수록 좋아졌다고 생각했는데, 아이맥스에서 앞부분을 다시 보고 나니까 도입부분이야말로 이후 스토리가 발전해 나가기 위한 완벽한 장치라는걸 깨달았다. 모든 주요 캐릭터는 최소한 한번씩 스피드와 함께 강렬한 장면을 연출하는데, 이는 감동을 줄 뿐 아니라 워쇼스키가 말하고자 하는 가족의 중요성을 스토리 속에 녹아나게 하려면 꼭 필요한 것이다. (스포생략)

What can I say about the script other than it gets the characterizations just perfectly right and crafts an intricate yet simple story of one boy's dream? While it's idealistic as hell at times, it's got a lot of maturity for a kid's movie, dealing with the difficult and 

시나리오는 캐릭터를 완벽하게 살려냈고 소년의 꿈에 대한 이야기를 단순하면서도 섬세하게 풀어냈다. 너무 이상주의적이라고 느껴질 때도 많지만, 아이들 영화 치고는 꽤 성숙한 부분도 많다.  (스포생략)

The soundtrack is amazing and makes perfect use of the original Speed Racer theme, but it's up on AICN already so you all knew that. The music can be bombastic at times, but maybe it'd be more noticeable if it weren't, given the epic nature of the images on-screen. The end credits feature a remix of the original theme over some shots of Chim-Chim going crazy, followed by another rearrangement of the original theme that wouldn't be out of place at a rave.

이곳에 올라와 있는거 벌써 들어보셨겠지만 사운드트랙 역시 원작 애니의 주제가를 완벽하게 되살려냈다. 가끔 과장스러운 음악이 나오기도 하는데, 어쩌면 이 영화의 웅장한 비주얼에는 안그런 음악이 더 어울렸을지도 모르겠다. 크레딧이 올라갈때는 침침이 날뛰는 장면에 주제가 리믹스 버전이 깔리기도 하고, 댄스파티에 어울릴 법한 원주제가의 또다른 버전도 들을수 있다.

Speed Racer goes by ridiculously fast and smooth, and it's the most entertaining film I've seen all year. In terms of artistic liberty, it goes far and beyond what most green-screen-fests (Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Sin City, 300, etc) have done before. That's not a knock on those films, all of which I love, but praise for the masterful use of cinematic technique that went into the production of Speed Racer. The special effects blend in effortlessly with the world on-screen. Not once was there a scene where I stopped and thought to myself "Okay, I've just been taken out of the film. None of that is actually there, they totally shot this in a tiny studio in Vermont or something". That's more than I can say for either of those three films, as great as they may be. The world in this film exists. This is some of ILM's best work ever, and including Revenge of the Sith and Transformers, that's saying a lot. It takes digital filmmaking to an entirely new level, a world populated by rich, vibrant colors and textures and dominated by an idealized and perfected version of automobile racing.

'스피드 레이서'는 엄청나게 빠르면서도 매끄럽게 진행되는 영화다. 올해 최고의 오락물이라고 생각한다. 예술적인 표현 측면에서 '월드 오브 투모로우', '신 시티', '300' 등등 웬만한 그린 스크린 촬영 영화들을 한참 뛰어넘는 작품이다. 저 영화들을 비하하려는게 아니라 (다 내가 엄청 좋아하는 영화들이다) '스피드 레이서'의 촬영 테크닉이 그만큼 뛰어나다는 얘기다. 특수효과는 화면 속에 아주 자연스럽게 녹아든다. "아, 몰입 방해돼. 저건 진짜가 아니라 저어기 버몬트에 있는 작은 스튜디오에서 찍었다는거 너무 티나." 이런 생각이 들었던 장면은 단 하나도 없었다. 위의 세 영화도 훌륭하지만 그 영화들에 대해서 나는 이렇게 말 못한다. 이 영화 속에 그려진 세상은 실재하는 세상이다. 이 영화는 '스타워즈 에피소드3,' '트랜스포머'와 어깨를 나란히 하는 ILM 역대 최고의 역작이다. 풍성하고 화려한 색감과 질감으로 가득찬 세상 속에 꿈을 현실화한 것처럼 완벽한 자동차 경주를 그려낸, 디지털 영화기술을 한 단계 올려놓은 작품이다.

In short, the Wachowskis have reclaimed their former glory. Maybe I'm just a raving lunatic nerd, but this is not just a small summer film! This is a noteworthy fucking achievement for cinema! I just hope that it gets a ton of support at the box office, because quite frankly, it deserves it.

요컨대 이 영화를 통해 워쇼스키는 과거의 명성을 되찾았다. 괜히 나 혼자 흥분해서 떠드는 덕후같아 보일지도 모르지만, 이건 절대 그냥 그저그런 방학용 영화가 아니라 영화사적으로 대단한 성취를 이뤄낸 작품이란 말이다! 반드시 흥행에 성공하길 바란다. 왜냐면, 그럴 자격이 있는 영화니까.
